GREG SESTERO TO ATTEND MELBOURNE EVENTS OF THE DISASTER ARTIST
Actor and author Greg Sestero will tour Melbourne, Sydney and Perth to celebrate the release of James Franco’s critically acclaimed film The Disaster Artist, based upon Sestero and Tom Bissell’s bestselling memoir on the making of the 2003 cult classic The Room.
The Disaster Artist will have its premiere at Cinema Nova on the 21 November, with Q&A events to follow that week. Sestero previously visited Cinema Nova in 2014 for the launch of his book The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside the Room, The Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made co-written by Tom Bissell, where Sestero conducted Q&A’s at sold-out screenings.
With The Disaster Artist, director James Franco (As I Lay Dying, Child of God) transforms the tragicomic true-story of aspiring filmmaker and infamous Hollywood outsider Tommy Wiseau—an artist whose passion was as sincere as his methods were questionable—into a celebration of friendship, artistic expression, and dreams pursued against insurmountable odds. Based on Greg Sestero’s best-selling tell-all about the making of Tommy’s cult-classic “disasterpiece” The Room, The Disaster Artist is a hilarious and welcome reminder that there is more than one way to become a legend—and no limit to what you can achieve when you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing.
Directed by James Franco, The Disaster Artist stars Dave Franco (Neighbors, Now You See Me) as Greg Sestero, James Franco (Oscar nominee for 127 Hours, TV’s The Deuce) as Tommy Wiseau, Seth Rogen (the Neighbors and Kung Fu Panda films) as Sandy Schklair, Alison Brie (Mad Men, GLOW) as Amber, Ari Graynor (For a Good Time, Call…) as Juliette Danielle, Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games films) as Philip Haldiman and Academy Award nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom, Silver Linings Playbook) as Carolyn Minnott.
The screenplay was written by Scott Neustadter & Michael H. Weber ((500) Days of Summer, The Fault in Our Stars). The film was produced by James Franco, Vince Jolivette, Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen and James Weaver. The executive producers were Scott Neustadter, Michael H. Weber, Toby Emmerich, Richard Brener, Michael Disco, Dave Neustadter, Alexandria McAtee, Roy Lee, John Powers Middelton, Nathan Kahane, Joe Drake, Erin Westerman, Kelli Konop and Hans Ritter. Franco’s creative behind-the-scenes team was led by director of photography Brandon Trost (Neighbors, The Interview), production designer Chris Spellman (Pineapple Express, This Is the End), editor Stacey Schroeder (Popstar: Never Stop, Never Stopping) and costume designer Brenda Abbandandolo (I Am Michael, The Adderall Diaries). Dave Porter (Breaking Bad) composed the score.
